My name is Alexana Blott. Im a recent graduate of Cardiff Metropolitan University, having been studying for a BA Hons in an Artist Designer: Maker degree. Im a metal sculpture artist, and I specialise in making small animals out of cutlery. I spent a good part of my life living in Hereford and I now live in Cardiff, still attending the University, but as an Incubation Space student instead. Please explore my website, check out my Gallery and For Sale pages, and feel free to contact me if you would like to know more!

Ive always been greatly inspired by nature and the world around us, and its very important that I portray this in my work. I want people to see the world how I see it, beautiful and magical and amazing in so many ways, even the tiniest things being full of wonder. I want people to look at my work, and first and foremost see the animal it portrays so they think about that animal and, if possible, come to appreciate it just a little more. If I can make someone smile with my work then I am very happy.

“One of the important tasks for artists of our time is to bring more of the natural world back into people’s lives, especially in urban areas. When we encounter the true wonders of nature, the beauty we behold transcends our intellects and reaches directly to our hearts.”— -SAYAKA GANZ

I started making cutlery sculptures in 2011 for my final project at college. I was exploring the ideas of recycling and nature, and our impact on the environment. I decided to make sculptures of local endangered wildlife out of recycled materials and through much experimentation and raiding charity shops, I came to settle on cutlery and never looked back. A beautifully versatile material, its one that lives in every home, rarely given a second thought when, in reality, each piece of cutlery is an amazing work of art and engineering.

My art now uses a mixture of preloved and new cutlery, combining both to get the best shapes and styles in every piece. Always keeping the environment in mind, I make sure to never waste any of my materials, and use every piece as efficiently as possible. I love using cutlery in my work, the flowing forms and gentle curves of spoons work wonderfully to create organic forms with movement and life.
